Why are antenatal breastfeeding consultations so important?

Antenatal breastfeeding consultations can make a powerful difference in your breastfeeding journey. They offer tailored, one-on-one support to help you feel confident and informed before your baby arrives. Every feeding journey is unique—this is your chance to ask questions, explore any concerns, and understand what’s normal and what might need support.

These sessions can help you prepare for common challenges like latching issues, nipple pain, or supply concerns—before they even arise. By learning about these ahead of time, you’re more equipped to respond calmly and proactively.

Breastfeeding is a skill, not an instinct, and like any new skill, it takes time and guidance. A consultation helps you build trust in your body and baby, understand the natural rhythms of feeding, and feel empowered to nourish your baby with confidence.

Is nipple pain normal? Do my nipples just need to toughen up?

No, nipple pain is not a normal part of breastfeeding. While some initial tenderness can be common in the early days, ongoing or sharp pain is usually a sign that something isn’t quite right—often related to positioning, attachment, or other feeding dynamics.

Your nipples don’t need to “toughen up.” Pain is your body’s way of signalling that support is needed. You deserve to breastfeed in comfort.

If you’re experiencing nipple pain, it’s important to reach out to an IBCLC. With the right support, most causes of pain can be identified and resolved—helping you and your baby get back to breastfeeding in a way that feels calm, connected, and pain-free.

Unfortunately, at this stage we do not offer medicare rebates, however this is something that will be introduced in the near future. I am very passionate about this service being as affordable as possible, as I believe all women should have access to it, so is something that will be coming, hold tight.

The travel fee reflects the time, fuel, and business costs involved in providing home-based support. As a small business, this helps me sustainably offer in-home care while continuing to show up fully for the families I support.
